Theatre-By-The-Sea Welcomes New Cabaret Host
Frank O'Donnell, RI Comedian
Rhode Island comedian Frank O'Donnell joins Theatre-By-The-Sea this summer to host the Late Night Cabaret at the SeaHorse Grill.
The Providence native - who now calls North Providence home (among other thing!) - graduated from Classical High School and earned a degree in accounting from Providence College in 1978.
"This is a terrific opportunity," says Frank. "I've been a fan of the Cabaret for years, and I'm really looking forward to working with such a talented group of performers."
Frank is well known for his off-the cuff humor and emceeing talents, and frequently called on for corporate events and roasts. Frank began performing as a standup comedian in 1982 and helped establish Periwinkle's, (Rhode Island's first comedy club), where he emceed open mike nights and hosted and appeared in the weekend shows.
Frank has appeared at numerous colleges and comedy clubs throughout North America including Play It Again Sam's in Boston, the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles and aboard the SS Costa Riviera. He has opened for such notable performers/groups as Michael Bolton, Chicago, the Harlem Globetrotters, Kathy Mattea and The Judds (Farewell Tour).
In the early 90's, Frank hosted and produced The Laffin' Group on Rhode Island cable television. In 1992, he won The Tonight Show Comedy Challenge - the only Rhode Island comic ever to do so. His material has been used on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and by comedy legend Bob Hope (in a special Rhode Island appearance in 1986).
Frank has been married to his high school sweetheart for 23 years. Together, they have four children. "They're half of my act," says Frank. He is an active PTA volunteer and coaches both Little League and basketball. "Take a good look at my picture, and you'll see why that's funny too."
Frank will be hosting Theatre-By-The-Sea's popular Late Night Cabaret at the Seahorse Grill following evening performances every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from June 27 - August 16
